Dear Parents / Guardians,

I want to thank you for attending Parent / Teacher conferences and for taking the time to complete the Parent Surveys.  We're proud of the accomplishments your children have made and appreciate your continued partnership.  As Spring approaches (we're all eager!), students in grades 3 - 5 will be taking state assessments.  We're confident they have the strategies to tackle these assessments with positive results.  We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming school events.

With Great Appreciation,

Ms. Biondollilo

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As the school year comes to a close, we reflect back on the goals we set for the school year.  Working together with you, the children had a year filled with successes, academic and social, helping to prepare them for the many new and exciting challenges.  We've seen tremendous growth in all our children and we look forward to building on the skills and strategies they've mastered.  Summer time is meant for family and friends to spend time creating new memories and sharing new experiences.  In September, your children will have an opportunity to share with their peers those special times by capturing mementos in their Summer Artifacts baggies.

On behalf of the entire staff, we wish you a healthy and joy filled summer, and we look forward  to continuing our partnership in September.

Enjoy!

Ms. Biondollilo

September 2011 - Welcome Back!

posted Sep 19, 2011, 11:17 AM by Felicia Ippolito   [ updated Sep 22, 2011, 5:47 AM ]

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome back!  We had a wonderful school opening, thank you.  The entire staff is very excited, enthusiastic and eager to begin our work together this year.

Our regular school hours include our extended intervention time, allowing all students to receive additional instructional time.  We will continue using our automated telephone service to remind parents of upcoming events etc.  Parents have given me positive feedback about this system, and our OnCourse gradebook site.  This site allows parents to monitor their children’s progress throughout the year.  If you do not have a password, you will be receiving a notice in about 2 weeks containing your username and password for the site.

Open school week is scheduled the week of September 19th.  Parents are welcome to come to meet their child’s teacher and visit the classroom.  A brief orientation will take place in the auditorium at 1:00, parents will then be escorted to the classrooms.  The schedule is as follows:

Kindergarten and First Grade – Tuesday, September 20th at 1:00 pm

Second and Third Grade – Wednesday, September 21st at 1:00 pm

Fourth and Fifth Grade – Thursday, September 22nd at 1:00 pm

Recently, 2011 State ELA and Math scores were released and we are proud to say that our students, your children performed nicely.  We are still awaiting our official report card and we’re confident that our school will continue with its “A” rating.

Teachers are working collaboratively within the grade and across grades to ensure that we’ve developed rigorous curriculum maps to support and challenge your child.  In the next several days, we hope to begin our afterschool programs.  As you know all schools received a decrease in funds this year, and we’re hopeful that we can continue to provide a variety of programs.

Please make sure you update your contact phone numbers on the blue card and check the ARIS Parent Link to ensure information is accurate.  It’s important that you visit our school website often, including parent links and teacher pages.  Keep in contact with your child’s teacher throughout the school year.  A strong partnership between parents and school is the cornerstone to a great education.

With Continued Appreciation,

Ms. Biondollilo

April Message

posted Apr 15, 2011, 11:14 AM by Felicia Ippolito   [ updated Apr 15, 2011, 11:33 AM ]

Dear Parents/Guardians

On behalf of the entire staff, we thank you for taking the time to complete recent Parent Surveys.  Your feedback is important to us and we need this information to guide our next steps.  Response rates to date have been positive.  The deadline is April 15th for parents and teachers to complete surveys.

Over the last several months your children have been actively engaged in their learning.  There are many exciting things happening each day in our classrooms.  Classroom celebrations in writing have demonstrated students’ passion for research and writing.  We continue to be proud of your child’s accomplishments and their determination to strive towards excellence.

As the winter fades away slowly, we’re all eager for spring to ‘arrive’.  There is a glimmer of hope as the flowers begin to pop-up.  The holidays are upon us and this brings an exciting time for all of us.  We look forward to time with family and friends.  The staff and I extend our warm wishes for a wonderful and healthy holiday.

At this time we’re in the process of creating our new website:  www.ps108q.com.  Plan to check out this site.  In September this site will replace www.ps108q.org.

To the parents and guardians of students in grades 3-5: As you know, the NYS ELA Assessment will be administered to students in grade 3-5 on May 3-5.  The NYS Math Assessment will be given on May 11-12.  With your support, our teachers and students have been preparing for these exams, and we expect them to do well.  Below are some tips to better prepare your child for the day of the test:

·        Make sure your child goes to bed early the night(s) before the test.

·        Make sure they arrive to school on time.  Late comers may not be permitted to take the test, and will have to do a make-up.

·        Make sure your child eats a light and healthy breakfast.

·        Make sure your child dresses comfortably.

·        If your child wears eye glasses, make sure they have them on the day of the test.

·        If your child is ill on any of these days, please keep them home.  Make-up dates will be scheduled.

·        Remind them to be positive and that they’re well prepared for these exams.

Again, I wish everyone a wonderful, restful and enjoyable holiday!

Sincerely

Marie Biondollilo
