September 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of the entire staff, I want to welcome you back to the PS 108 School Community.  It has been a long and challenging journey and we missed you all very much.  To the parents who are new to our school, we send you a warm welcome to the PS 108 school family.  We are excited to begin this new school year and we look forward to a strong, unified partnership. Please see our parent power point for details: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Q8aBT217X8JfqHx1w-EvHq9kbPsAhwCc/view?usp=sharing

Our school day will be different this year: All children will attend school from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm Monday to Friday (5 days a week) whether in person or remotely.   This week students in Kindergarten – fifth grade will be learning remotely.  3K and Pre-Kindergarten will be in person according to their cohort schedule, if you chose the blended learning option.  3K and Pre K are on a staggered schedule.  Please see our website and your child’s teacher for further details.

Dismissal will be a staggered schedule for all grades 3K – 5 to accommodate health and safety guidelines of social distancing.  Please see our website for details www.ps108q.com

This year all parent meetings/conferences will take place virtually to ensure safety of all members of our school community.

In order to provide parents with on-going and updated information regarding your child’s academic progress, you will have access to viewing your child’s s individual data using your personal login information for the On Course Parent Portal.  Usernames and passwords will remain the same as last year for those parents returning. Ms. Ippolito will be sending log in information for new students and password reset information to all parents in the upcoming weeks.

We continue to embed a high level of ‘rigor’ in instruction in all grades, for all students.  The city’s goal is to engage all students in rigorous units of study in Literacy, Math, Science, and Social Studies in a blended / virtual environment. Teachers continue to work in teams to ensure all instructional plans are aligned to the Next Generation Learning Standards.

We are committed to supporting your child both academically as well as socially and emotionally to ensure each child graduates P.S.108Q with the skills and tools necessary to excel in Middle School and beyond while preparing for College and Career Readiness and in order to be successful in the 21st century.

I want to extend my personal gratitude in advance for all your support and cooperation.  This school year will be like no other reimagining what instruction looks like in a blended remote environment.  A school’s success is only possible with the collaborative partnership of parents and teachers. Your participation in your child’s education is critical to their success. I am confident that with strong family ties and continued parent engagement, together we can and will make a difference!  I am committed to staying connected and communicating with families.  This year I have created a parent communication form:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/17s_Vh5RvY-T6QByoS6YtYFkPtQ7hYjGzQDLuAkE8X4c/edit for specific questions, as well as a school leader DOJO for quick updates.  To sign up, please go to:  https://www.classdojo.com/invite/?s=4eece824f64aa62934edf1b8.  In addition, you can find all of the information on our website, www.ps108q.com

I look forward to working with all of you and wish you all a safe, healthy and successful school year.

Sincerely,

J. Iovine

Principal
