January 20, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On Friday, January 20, 2017 at approximately 10:00 am in the morning the fire alarm in P.S. 108 sounded.  We determined there was an odor of smoke on the fourth floor.  Due to these factors the building responded as if we were having a fire drill and the fire department was contacted.  Staff and students left the building safely and efficiently.  The fire department responded promptly and determined there was no fire just a malfunction in one of the fan rooms which caused the alarm and the odor.  The fire department gave the “all clear” to enter back into the building.  Staff and students proceeded back into the building in an orderly manner.  Since this situation occurred during the first lunch period, students’ lunch times were adjusted to ensure all students had the opportunity to have lunch.

We are so proud of how well the students behaved and listened to direction during this situation.  We are also extremely proud of our staff whose response was both seamless and organized as we have systems and protocols in place and we practice these protocols several times throughout the school year.  Safety of students and staff is our number one concern and we appreciate all of your support.

Sincerely,

J. Iovine
