Parent Letter #13 - Traffic concerns

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As you know, PS 108Q has a student population of close to 1500 students, and, as a result, morning arrivals and afternoon dismissals are challenging. All exits/entrances are used to help facilitate this process. Rockaway Boulevard and 109th Avenue are the streets that surround our school and are heavy traffic areas as well, creating further challenges for the school.  Although many of our children live within the radius of the school, many of them are driven to school.  This results in cars double and triple parking on the street, creating an unsafe situation.  Some parents have let their children out of the car in the middle of the street.  Needless to say, this is extremely concerning and an unsafe practice. We had previously sent home a notice in November regarding this matter; however it continues to be an issue.  The 106th precinct has received many complaints regarding the traffic/double parking around P.S. 108.  Officers from the precinct informed us today that if the situation does not resolve, they will be patrolling the area and issuing tickets.  We certainly don’t want any person to experience this inconvenience but unfortunately, at this point, the matter is out of our hands.  We appreciate your consideration and cooperation with this matter.
