#32 - End of Year

posted Jun 16, 2014, 8:14 AM by Felicia Ippolito

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As the school year comes to a close, we reflect on the months that have passed with much pride.  It has been a productive year for your children and the teachers have seen the students make great strides.  Improving reading levels and writing collaboratively with classmates has proven to be successful.

We have begun to plan and prepare for next year and below I have outlined some important items for your reference:

Ø  The new school hours for 2014-15 will be Monday through Friday:

o   8:00 am to 2:10 pm for Grades K & 1

o   8:00 am to 2:20 pm for Grades 2 through 5

Ø  The silver doors located on 109th street will open at 7:45 am for children to eat breakfast.

Ø  We will continue to use the P.S. 108 website: www.ps108q.com .  Please check here for updated information, copies of all of the parent letters, the calendar and reminders of holidays and half days, etc.

Ø  Please encourage your children to read during the summer vacation.  It is important to keep their reading skills active so they are prepared when they come to school in September.

Ø  Please remember that you must have proper identification to enter the building.  You will be asked to present a valid NY State ID or current passport every time you enter.  Please understand it is the law, you cannot enter the building without it.

Ø  PS 108Q has a school uniform policy.  Students should wear navy blue pants, skirt or jumper and a light blue top (button down or polo) every day (unless otherwise directed in writing).

Ø  Bus eligibility requirements (from the Office of Pupil Transportation) change at Grade 3.  So even if your child was on the bus in 2nd grade, he/she may not be eligible for the bus in 3rd grade.  You will be receiving a notice from the school if your child’s eligibility changed.

Ø  IMPORTANT: As you know busing during the first two weeks of school is challenging.  The school’s policy will remain the same as we make this difficult transition – only children who come to school on the bus will be able to take the bus home.  In this way we can ensure parents will have someone at the stop to pick up the child.  Please do not call the school to request a child be put on the bus in the afternoon.  These requests cannot be accommodated.

Thank you for your support.  It has been a wonderful year and we look forward to seeing you all in September.  Have a happy and healthy summer!

Sincerely,

M. Biondollilo
